The V & A Waterfront is known for their contribution towards supporting South African artisans, crafts and designers. A creative platform such as the 'Joy from Africa to the world' campaign, is one which encourages collaborations and the spirit of sharing light and hope. This unique collaboration allowed all the creatives to contribute towards the creation of an authentic African Christmas. Headed by one of SA's most respected creative agencies - Platform Creatives Agency and Cathy O'Clery. Working alongside Theatre designer James MacNamara , Pauline Irvine of Artymiss who designed these beautiful 3 dimensional dioramas, Illustrations by Phathu Nembilwi and Patterns by Renaissance Design. Renaissance was given a task to design patterns that would be applied to 'The Tree of light' and the clothing of the characters which bring life to the tree. These characters are also evident around the palace. The fashion link which consists of the high-end brands was injected with light Christmas balls which floated effortlessly above the strip. Below stood mini tree installations with our geometric diamond pattern applied to the trees and plinths, inspired by the architectural exterior of the Silo hotel...Definitely a project which tapped into my childhood.
